Oct. 29, 2020 UPDATE & REPORT OF FIRST COVID CASE AT GYM ... In our effort to communicate openly and protect our members, we want to share that we received a call from a member who tested positive for COVID19 just yesterday (Wed 10/28). The person has minor symptoms and is isolating for 14 days. We thanked our member for the call!
The affected member was at the gym Monday (10/26) from about 9:30-10:30AM. We do not know of any other member or employee who has tested positive. If you have tested positive within 14 days of visiting Health & Strength Gym, please call the gym as soon as possible to let us know.
We will resume measuring body temperatures for at least two weeks, and ask all members and employees to redouble efforts: disinfecting equipment before and after use, social distancing, and wearing a mask if/when within 6 feet of others. We do not recommend wearing a mask when working out intensely. Thanks to everyone’s extra effort, this is our FIRST case of COVID19 at the gym. We will keep all our members informed if we learn of any other cases.
Oct 4, 2020 UPDATE: Its been a little over a week since the Governor announced that we're Phase 3 of the State’s three phase COVID19 Recovery Plan. During this final phase of Recovery, we want to reassure all our members that we are continuing to focus on cleanliness, social distancing, frequent disinfecting of gym equipment, and encouraging the use of facemasks to keep our staff & members safe. If you’ve been staying away from the gym feeling it may not be safe; now's a good time to stop by the gym and check out for yourself how we are handling cleanliness, safe social distancing, disinfecting equipment, and facemasks. Then, you should decide if its time to return or not. Thanks to everyone’s extra effort over the past 4 months since re-opening we haven’t had a case of COVID19 at the gym! We want to extend a huge Thank You to all our members, staff, and our professional cleaning crew for the keeping Health & Strength Gym a safe place to be during this challenging period. Health & Stregth has always been known as "the cleanest gym in Cape Coral", and these past four months has proven just how important cleanliness is when it comes to your gym!
Sept 19, 2020 UPDATE: Its great to see many of our members coming back! Seems there's a few more of you returning to the gym everyday. Thanks! To remain safe, we continue to recommend that we all: clean and disinfect hands & equipment frequently, maintain social distancing, and wear a mask when not working out intensely (we actually believe it can be dangerous to wear a mask while working out very intensely.) These precautions have kept our gym COVID-free up to now. Let's keep it that way. We want to extend a huge Thank You to all our members, staff, and professional cleaning crew for the making the gym a safe place to be during this challenging period.
August 16, 2020 UPDATE: With the total number of cases in Florida declining for over a month now, more members are returning to the gym, and its great to see folks that have been in isolation for 5-6 months coming back! Our class schedule is up to 17-18 classes per week, and increasing. To remain safe, we are not relaxing any of our precautionary measures. We are still checking body temperatures, cleaning and disinfecting hands & equipment non-stop, requiring social distancing, and recommending mask when not working out intensely (we actually believe it can be dangerous to wear a mask while working out very intensely.) These precautions have kept our gym COVID-free up to now. We hope we are seeing the beginning of the end, and we will strive to keep the gym COVID-free right through to the end of this pandemic thanks to all the help of our members, staff, and professional cleaning crew!
June 14, 2020 UDATE: We resumed checking body temperatures. As the number of cases in SWFL is trending upward, we want to continue to keep Health & Strength Gym COVID free! Thanks to everyone for all the extra effort helping us keep the gym clean and disinfected. We have the very best members and staff!
June 7, 2020 UPDATE: We advanced into Phase 2 of the Re-Opening of Florida last week. At Health & Strength, we are no longer checking body temperatures and are no longer requiring FaceMasks. We are still adhering to the 6 ft social distancing guideline, and asking members to continue diligently wiping down equipment before and after every use. Our staff are working hard to keep the disinfectant bottles full, and we've even added a disinfecting work station in the classroom. Our Class schedule for this coming week includes a variety of 16 different classes. We will continue to adapt our Class schedule weekly based on attendance. We are not aware of a single Health & Strength Gym member who has contracted COVID-19.
May 23, 2020 UPDATE:
Group Exercise Class Schedule issued for week of May 25, 2020 – May 31, 2020 -- This will be the first week of classes since we’ve resumed operations. We are expecting small class sizes, which will help us stay within the guidelines while we assess and make further changes if needed. It is a very limited schedule. We selected classes that adapt most readily to follow the Governor’s Re-Opening Florida guidelines. We're going above and beyond the guidelines... Face Masks will be required in all classes. A minimum of 6 ft spacing will be enforced. And, participants must agree to have their body temperature checked upon entering the gym to ensure they do not have a fever. The instructors will solicit feedback from participants on any measures to further ensure the safety of instructors and participants. We will assess the situation before deciding about classes for the follow weeks. All participants exercise at their own risk, same as any other activities in the gym. Our Class Schedule is always on this website as well as our Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/healthandstrengthgym/
May 17, 2020 UPDATE:
As we reopen our gym we want to exceed what we have all done with our staff and members in the past w.r.t. cleaning equipment before and after each use. We want our gym to set a new standard for gym etiquette that allows everyone to workout cooperatively to prevent the spread of any contagious disease. Before and after using a piece of equipment, please wipe down the equipment thoroughly with disinfectant and paper towel. This includes dumbbells, plates, bars, benches, etc. Everything!
Social distancing will be a key factor along with keeping the gym clean. While at the gym stay at least six feet away from one another. Avoid body contact. Exceptions can be made with members of the same household. To help everyone gauge 6ft. spacing in any area of the gym, use the black rubber floor mats which measure 6’Lx4’W. In the classroom we have placed blue +’s on the floor spaced more than 6’ apart for people needing to stretch and do floor exercises on their own. There will be no classes scheduled during this opening phase. The bikes are all spread out between the classroom and the Cycle room.
Leave at least one piece of cardio or strength equipment between you and another member when using any gym equipment. No sharing or “rotating” in on strength equipment will be allowed except for members of the same household.
Every employee and member will have their temperature taken when entering the gym. No one will be allowed into the gym with a temperature of 100.4F (38.1C) or higher. Our employees will be required to wear face masks for your protection. Members will be encouraged to wear face masks, and masks will be available for sale.
We look forward to opening our gym back up and want to ensure all of you that our staff will be cleaning everything in the gym on a more frequent basis. They have spent the past 5 days deep cleaning the gym. However, nothing our staff does can ever replace the effectiveness of every member wiping down equipment before and after every use. Your health and well being are our first priority during this time. We want you to feel totally comfortable at our gym knowing that it is a safe and clean place to achieve your fitness goals.
Thank you for your continued support during this challenging time and we appreciate all you do in keeping our gym the cleanest one in the SWFL area. Let's all work together to stay safe as we stay fit

April 1, 2020: The federal Task Force extended the recommedation for social distancing until the end of April. With the gym closed for the month of April, we're completing some maintenance projects that are difficult to do while the gym is in operation. Please be re-assured, we have put all memberships on-hold, stopped all Auto-Payments for monthly membership dues, and we will delay payments for members who pay Quarterly, Semi-Annually, or Annually once we now how long the closure lasted. Members do not need to take any action. Stay safe.
March 21, 2020: Governor Ron Desantis issued Executive Order 20-71 yesterday ordering all gyms in Florida to close due to COVID-19. We announced this past Monday that we were closing on Tuesday, anticipating this action the State would have to take. While the gym is closed, we are deep cleaning the gym and doing maintenance projects that are difficult to do while the gym is in operation. We asked our bank to stop all Auto-Payments for monthly membership dues, and we will delay payments for members who pay Quarterly, Semi-Annually, or Annually once we now how long the closure lasted. Members do not need to take any action.
March 19th, 2020: We closed the gym on Tuesday March 17th to try to help reduce the spread of the corona virus in our community, especially with our members and their families. It was a difficult and costly decision, but we feel it was the right thing to do. We are genuinely concerned about the potential for Covid-19 to result a high percentage of severe cases in Cape Coral because of the local demongraphics and how aggressive the virus can be toward ederly people with pre-existing conditions. We are watching the National and Local News very closely and will remain closed as long as we feel its prudent to do so. When don't know how long the closure will last. We will update this website when we have an estimate of when we expect to re-open. During this closure we have stopped all membership auto-payments.
March 13, 2020: Keeping Health & Strength Gym clean in the midst of corona virus outbreak
What’s our plan at Health & Strength Gym for dealing with the corona virus threat we all face? It’s pretty simple: cleanliness and common sense/courtesy. Our staff & gym members are critical elements of our plan.
Here's what we are asking members to do to help us ...
1.Clean your equipment before and after you use it. Lately, our staff and members are cleaning the gym more than ever. We have stocked up on sanitizing wipes, hand soap, disinfectant spray, and paper towels. We are deep cleaning the gym and all the equipment several times a day, especially all the touch points on cardio/strength equipment, and accessories throughout the gym. But we only have a few staff members; nothing can replace gym member diligence in cleaning equipment.
2.Wash your hands often while you are at the gym, including when you get to the gym and before you leave.
3.Do NOT come to the gym if you have any common cold/virus symptoms. We have always asked our staff and gym members to not come to the gym if they have any signs of an illness of any kind. In the face of the corona virus threat, we’d like to reiterate that request and ask that you to PLEASE stay home, esp. if you have any of the corona virus symptoms being talked about in the News. Call your doctor and seek his/her advice.
4.Avoid physical contact with other members. The one BIG CHANGE we are asking of all our members is to refrain from physical contact until the threat of the virus is over. PLEASE no handshakes, high fives, fist pumps, hugs, or any physical contact with other members. Try to keep your distance.
5.Use common sense and be courteous. For example, if you have to sneeze or cough, turn your head away from others and sneeze or cough into your elbow. If you get water all over the countertop when washing your hands, please wipe the countertop down.
We often hear prospective members during their first tour of the gym say something like “How do you keep this gym so clean?” or “This is the cleanest gym I’ve ever seen.” How do we do it? The answer is you. Our members and staff are always cleaning! Yes, we do have a professional janitorial service clean the gym at night after we’ve closed for the day, but they’re not the real answer. The key to why Health & Strength Gym is so clean is because all our members and staff constantly clean and wipe down equipment all day long. So, now is the time for us to amplify what Health & Strength Gym members and staff always do so well -- keep our gym clean!
If you’ve been to Health & Strength this past week, you may have noticed the additional effort by all our staff and members to help keep Health & Strength Gym cleaner than ever. We are going through a lot of hand wipes, and filling all our soap dispensers and sanitizing spray bottles more frequently this week. And, that’s a good thing! We’d like to thank all our staff and gym members for all your extra effort to keep the gym clean and safe for your exercise/workouts.

The machines and treadmills etc are great. The instructors are wonderful! They have classes at times that work for me and I've met some great people there. Parking hasn't been an issue, if the lot in the back is full, I park over behind the Asian Buffet restaurant. The gym is super clean too. The owners, Mike and Carol, have been very supportive and helpful. I'm not a smoothie/protein shake gal, but everyone says they're really good too. I don't know how I lived without going to the gym everyday!"

Other staff members have also been very nice. PLENTY of workout equipment and the gym is not usually too busy. Even at its busiest, I get through my workouts without having to wait too often for equipment to free up. The gym and locker room are very clean. I highly recommend this gym."
